Catholic Women's League

St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Women's League Parish Council was founded in 1956, with Mary Matthews as a founding member. It is a sisterhood of mutual support and understanding.

The Catholic Women’s League of Canada calls its members to grow in Faith and to witness to the Love of God through Ministry and Service.

Faith, Service and Social Justice are the three pillars of the League.

At St Edward the Confessor Church, the women meet each month, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. We begin our General meeting with the first 30 minutes dedicated to mass or a prayer service. The invitation is ongoing to all women of the parish to join the CWL and gain the benefits of belonging to the largest organization of Catholic Women in Canada.

Msgr. Patrick O'Dea Scholarship

Program Purpose:

The Msgr. Patrick O’Dea Scholarship recognizes graduating students in good standing who demonstrate active participation in the sacramental and pastoral life of the Church, leadership rooted in faith, and a genuine commitment to service.  

This annual scholarship, awarded once per recipient, is granted to one female and one male student from St. Edward the Confessor Parish who exemplify exceptional pastoral zeal through sustained parish involvement, a demonstrated commitment to the Catholic faith, and meaningful service to both the Church and the broader community.

This scholarship reflects the mission of the Catholic Women’s League to foster faith formation, leadership, and service among young people.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

Every applicant must:

  • Be either a self‑applicant or nominated by a member of St. Edward the Confessor Parish community
  • Be a registered parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Parish.
  • Be a secondary school graduate (recent or past; students who took a gap year remain eligible)
  • Be accepted into a recognized post‑secondary institution and must confirm their intention to enroll beginning in September of the current academic year.
  • Show involvement in parish and community activities.

 

Application Requirements:

Applicants must submit:

  • A completed application form.
  • Proof of acceptance to a recognised post-secondary institution.
  • A personal statement describing their faith journey and demonstrating involvement in parish life and community service. (500 words)
  • A letter of recommendation from a Community leader (coach, volunteer coordinator, program supervisor) Or Mentor involved in the student’s personal, academic, or faith development

 

Application Timeline:

  • Nominations Open: May 9 – June 7, 2026
  • Application Submission Deadline: June 7, 2026
  • Selection Review: June 8, 2026 to June 12, 2026
  • Award Presentation: June 14, 2026 at the Parish Celebration and/or Graduation Mass
  • Donation Deadline for This Year’s Scholarship: June 7, 2026

(Donations received after this date will be allocated to next year’s scholarship fund.

 

Recognition:

Recipients will be recognized during a parish celebration and acknowledged in parish communications. This scholarship highlights the CWL’s ongoing commitment to supporting youth, faith formation, and education within our parish community.

  • Cheque Donations: Please make cheques payable to: "St. Edward The Confessor Catholic Women's League"
  • Cash Donations: Cash may be placed in an envelope addressed to the CWL Scholarship Fund and left at the parish office.

 

St. Michael’s College Scholarship

CWL St. Michael's Scholarship 2026

The Scholarship is offered by the Toronto Diocesan Council of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada to St. Michael's College at University of Toronto. The value of this non-renewable scholarship is $3,000.
